Spring Summer Style Inspiration | Friday Sewtacular with Purple Sewing Cloud

Spring Summer Style Inspiration | Friday Sewtacular with Purple Sewing Cloud

Hi, I'm Samantha from @purplesewingcloud, I’ve been asked to put together some outfit and sewing inspiration for the coming spring/summer months including some of my favourite Friday pieces.

As Spring and Summer looms across the northern hemisphere sewists get inspired to sew new makes and wear their favourite warm weather me-mades and I’m no different. I don’t really think I have a style aesthetic but this year I definitely have some favourite looks that I'm leaning into. My favourites are currently dungarees with cute blouses underneath and loose floaty dresses.

Fabric and colour is very important to me too, I’m completely obsessed with small ditsy florals and beautiful colours. As the weather turns warmer my colour palette always goes into beautiful pastel shades but I do still love to wear darker bright colours too. I love sewing with soft cottons and linens.

I’ve put together some of my favourite looks to give you some inspiration and some ideas you can plan for spring summer.

Walks in the park

I live in the UK and due to my chronic health conditions and shielding there’s not been many places to go but I have managed to get the occasional walk around our local parks. My favourite look for comfort when I'm walking is my dungarees, I have a couple of pairs and I wear them weekly. I have plans for a corduroy pair and I’d love a denim blue pair too because they would go with so much in my wardrobe.

Popping a cute floral blouse under the dungarees instantly makes it perfect for spring and summer. Here I'm wearing the Friday Pattern Company Sagebrush Top in two liberty prints with the helens closet Yanta overalls. Paired with a floral scrunchie made from scraps and some cute floral earrings.

Meeting friends

Like so many I haven’t seen my friends for months but as vaccines are given to more people and lockdown restrictions ease across the UK I'm excited to meet them for some walks and maybe a coffee on a bench somewhere.

Here’s what I’ll be wearing … cute midi length linen dress (this one is the Tamzin dress pattern from by hand London paired with my favourite make, my patchwork Ilford jacket. This is quilted and lovely and cosy but not too warm, plus all the colours I’ve used means it goes with everything. The Ilford is such a perfect make for a spring summer jacket.

Date Night

I still dress up date night even if we aren’t going anywhere. Whats more perfect than a floral cotton Wilder Gown?? I have couple more midi length floral dress planned. They are so versatile and last me through all seasons, in the winter I just pop on some tights and a cardigan and I'm ready to go.

Picnics

My favourite thing to do in the warmer months is a picnic, packing up a few treats and heading to a secluded spot in a park or at the beach to lie on a blanket with a good book or some good company. A dress is perfect for this!

Here I'm wearing the Sagebrush top that I’ve added some extra tiers to make a dress. I’ve paired it with a little denim jacket I made using the seam work Audrey pattern and a neck scarf. Id love to make a few more neck scarfs using scraps to go with my dresses.

Working from home

My working from home looks aren’t always loungewear, most of the time I prefer a loose dress especially in the warmer months. This tie-dyed wilder gown in linen is always reached for, I love the colours and how unique it is. I’d love to dye some more garments this year. It’s also the perfect way to give some fresh life into a garment you haven’t worn much recently.

So that’s a few outfits for over the spring and summer months, I hope its given you some inspiration.

Stay safe and happy sewing,

Samantha x x x
