Sizing Note: The #FridayBateauTop will be available in sizes XS-7X (32"/81cm - 60”/152cm chest)
RECOMMENDED FABRIC
The Friday Bateau is designed for knits with at least 50% cross grain stretch. This means that your fabric needs to be able to stretch on the crosswise grain.
Fabric Suggestions:
Look for knit fabrics that have a 50% stretch, something like a cotton jersey, ribbed jersey, Modal, or Bamboo Jersey. Above are a few styles that would look awesome from various fabric stories.
From left to right:
1. Bamboo Jersey in mint green from Sew Me Sunshine
2. Recycled Nylon Swim from Blackbird Fabrics
3. Stripe Modal from Stone Mountain and Daughter
4. Jersey from Grid Fabrics
5. Bamboo Jersey Ribbed from Sew Me Sunshine
6. Organic Cotton Jersey from Minerva
STRETCH % GUIDE:
Hold a piece of un-stretched fabric and line the ends up at the two arrows. Keeping one end at the first arrow, stretch the other end to the 50% line. As long as it can stretch to that line, your fabric is suitable.
FIT NOTES:
The Friday Bateau is designed to be fitted without being too tight. It was drafted using sample measurements for a B bra cup and for a height of 5’6”[168cm].
We recommend choosing a size based on your full chest measurement.
FINISHED GARMENT MEASUREMENTS
The measurements below are the dimensions of the garment after it is sewn. The ‘Length’ is measured from your high shoulder point to hem. Your high shoulder point is where your shoulder seam meets your neck.
YARDAGE REQUIREMENTS
You may need to purchase extra yardage if your fabric has a heavy nap, is directional, striped, or has an obvious repeat.
IMPORTANT INFO
-
When working with knit fabrics it is important to handle unsewn pieces with care so that they don't stretch out. This is especially important if your fabric has a lot of stretch. Avoid holding unsewn pieces up or letting your project hang off of your table as you sew.
-
Seam allowance is 3/8”[1cm] unless otherwise stated.
-
When sewing with knits use a stretch or ballpoint needle in your sewing machine.
-
Use a stretch or zig zag stitch (unless otherwise noted) for construction and topstitching. You can also use a serger for construction stitches if you have one. Recommended zig zag stitch setting is 2.5mm wide x 2.5 mm long.
-
Make sure your sewing machine tension is correct. Test a scrap of fabric to make sure your stitch looks right on your fabric.
-
Make sure that your fabric is feeding nicely through your machine. You should not have to pull or push it. Forcing the fabric will cause warping.
-
Wavy seams? Give ‘em a steam! If your seams are a bit wavy after sewing you can press them with a steamy iron to flatten them.
READY TO WEAR INSPIRATION
The Bateau is the perfect layering piece and great for casual outfits. Style with your favourite pair of jeans, or tucked into some dressy trousers for a more elevated look. Choose a classic stripe fabric for a Parisian vibe, or a bold fabric for a statement pop of colour.
If you would like to try the pattern it's available as a free / pay what you can pattern. So if you can select from $2 at the checkout, as we want to create more accessible sewing patterns for everyone.
