Halloween Costume Sewing Project Ideas

Halloween Costume Sewing Project Ideas

This is Halloween, this is halloween! It's the season for frolicking around in silly costumes, appealing your inner child! If you're looking for a last minute Halloween costume, and want to sew up something fun, then these ideas will be great for you.

Halloween Clown:

We love this colorful clown aesthetic, it's fun, cute, and easy to re-wear any pieces you make for this outside of halloween. Think clashing prints, bold florals, crafty vibes, and doll like - almost like you're a handmade clown doll locked up in the attic, haha!

Pattern choices for this idea:

Avenir Jumpsuit: This is the perfect pattern to make a funky clown jumpsuit! Add ruffles to the neck and sleeves for that quintessential clown look.

Donny Shirt: A boxy Donny shirt made in funky fabrics would be a great basis for a fun clown outfit, paired with some clashing bottoms! Clip on a little flower badge to the pocket for added whimsy.

Saguaro Set Pants: These pants are a great stable to build an outfit from, and would be great with added frills to the bottom, you can use this blog post hack by Purple Sewing Cloud to amplify the look.

Scooby Gang:

Scooby doo costume ideas are always great because they are simple garments pieced together to look like the characters. An Orange sweatshirt for Velma, paired with a red skirt is an easy but adorable Halloween look. Or Shaggy who wears a khaki green top, with brown pants! You could also easily do Fred and Daphne as well with our patterns.

Pattern choices for this idea:

Old Coast Raglan: A simple t-shirt but the perfect foundation for the shaggy costume, made in a green knit fabric.

Pogonip Pullover: An orange Pogonip would be perfect for Velma as it has the look of a roll neck jumper but means you can wear it again after Halloween, and it will be a cool layer to add to your wardrobe.

Bernadette Skirt: a red or burgundy Bernadette Skirt would be another fab pattern match for the Velma look.

Rambler Pants: Make these in a brown or mustard corduroy for the shaggy look! Or blue denim for Fred.

Saltwater Slip Dress: Get Daphne's iconic purple dress look, using the Saltwater Slip Dress!

The Joker:

As well as the Joker, you could also create a suit for the Mask in the iconic yellow suiting! Or a black and white stripe for a Bettlejuice look.

Pattern choices for this idea:

Heather Blazer: This is a great pattern for all these project ideas.

Rambler Pants or Saguaro Set: The bottom base needed for a suit look, match up your fabrics.

Butano Button Up: For the joker you can have fun with the fabrics, something shiny and green will work well, or a bright green or yellow shirting fabric.

We hope you enjoyed these spooky and fun halloween ideas using our Friday Patterns! Being able to express yourself in costume form is always really fun, and using your sewing skills to create something unique is a big win when it comes to Halloween costume bragging rights!

Happy haunting!
