Sagebrush Sewalong Post 3: Getting Ready to Sew

In this post we will cover:

  • How to print and assemble your PDF pattern
  • Taking your measurements and finding your size

Printing and Assembling your PDF Pattern

If you purchased the PDF pattern your purchase includes: a print at home file that can be printed on A4 or letter sized paper, an A0 sized file, printing instructions, and sewing instructions.

To print the PDF or A0 file:

Follow the instructions on this page. The print at home PDF is 30 pages. The A0 file is 2 pages and can be ordered from a print shop. The page linked above has a list of resources for ordering A0 sized prints.

The print at home PDF is layered. This means that each size is on a different layer and you are able to print just the layers that you want. To print the pattern and select layers:

  • Download the pattern and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  • Click the icon that looks like 3 squares falling from the sky to view layers.

  • Uncheck the sizes that you don’t want to print by clicking the eyeball. Be sure to leave the “All Sizes” layer visible.

Finding your Size:

The Sagebrush top has a comfortable, relaxed fit. It has a fair amount of ease through the bust and waist. This top was drafted using sample measurements for a B cup and a height of 5’6” (168cm). Cup size is not super important on the Sagebrush because there is so much ease in the full and upper bust. I had testers in a wide range of cup sizes who made the top without a problem.

Below is one of my testers, Lorene (@goldpom). She wears a DDD cup size and made an XXL based on her measurements with no adjustments. You can check out her amazing blog here

Your full bust measurement is the most important measurement when picking a size. Unless you lengthen this top, it won't go down around the fullest part of your hips. You can see in the photo below where the hem falls on a 5'6" person. If you are between sizes you can air on the side of sizing down since this is a looser top (unless you want it baggier!).

I am wearing a size small in the photo below with no adjustments. My measurements are: bust 35"(89cm), waist 29"(74cm), hips 40"(102cm). Even though my bust and hips are two sizes apart, I didn't grade out at the hips because the top isn't really going down around my hips and there is plenty of ease.

To find your size compare your body measurements to the measurements on the size chart below.
