The Eddy Cardigan Blazer is a stylish outerwear piece that will elevate both your handmade wardrobe and your sewing skills. Its simple yet impactful silhouette offers endless styling opportunities. The Eddy is a fully lined collarless blazer, it features subtly shaping body darts, a back vent, front patch pockets, and a single front button. The sewing process is approachable yet skill building. It will be a satisfying challenge for newer sewists and a fun opportunity to flex your skills for seasoned experts.
Recommended Fabric:
The Eddy is designed for woven fabrics. The easy silhouette makes it look great in a variety of fabrics.
- MAIN FABRIC: Any woven fabric with a bit of weight to it is great: Linen, suiting, twill, denim, canvas. It will make your blazer more challenging to sew if your fabric cannot take a press.
- LINING FABRIC: Typically you want to line your blazers with something that will easily slide on and off over other fabrics. Anything a little bit slippery would work. Rayon, silk, or a cotton with a tight weave.
Photo shoot Samples:
- The denim version is made from a 10 oz 100% cotton denim fabric.
- The grey version is made from a wool mohair fabric.
- The beige version is made from a 7 oz poly/rayon blend suiting fabric.
Fit Notes
The Eddy has a relaxed fit without being oversized. There is shaping through the torso but still enough ease to wear a layer underneath. The hem is designed to hit just below your butt.
The Eddy Cardigan Blazer was drafted using sample measurements for a B bra cup and for a height of 5’6”[168cm]. We recommend choosing a size based on your full chest measurement.
Finished Garment Measurements:
The measurements below are the dimensions of the garment after it is sewn.
Bust/Waist: These measurements are taken with the blazer buttoned.
Hip: This measurement is taken with the back vent closed.
Length from CB is measured down the center back of the blazer starting at the neckline. Sleeve Length is measured starting at the shoulder seam and straight down to the sleeve hem.
Yardage Requirments:
You may need to purchase extra yardage if your fabric has a heavy nap, is directional, striped, or has an obvious repeat.
Fabric Suggestions and examples:
The Eddy looks great as a more traditional blazer in a suiting fabric, or you can try out other fabrics to either look like a blazer, jacket, or cardigan. Some woven wool fabrics have a lovely texture and would hang really nicely, or a structured denim to create a laid back casual blazer vibe.
Here are some fabrics below we think would work well!
Fabric is a Denim stripe from Fabrics Galore
Stone washed Cotton denim from Fabrics Galore
Plaid Coating from Blackbird Fabrics
Metallic Brocade Fabric from Fabric Godmother
Deadstock Wool from Sew Me Sunshine
We can't wait to see your Eddy versions and the fabrics you choose for them! We will be adding more supporting content soon including our sew along video, so look out for that.
