Friday Fall Winter Capsule Wardrobe | Paige & Meg!

Friday Fall Winter Capsule Wardrobe | Paige & Meg!

You may recall seeing our previous capsule wardrobe posts, where we put together a combination of Friday patterns to curate a seasonal capsule wardrobe. As we head into another new season, we thought it would be fun to refresh our wardrobe again with some new seasonal makes and highlight how we plan to style them together. As Chelsea is away on maternity leave, Paige and Meg are sharing their Fall capsule wardrobes! Considering how things might look together is a great way to be more mindful when choosing what to sew.

Paige's Capsule

The Inspiration:

Some of you will already know that I love eccentric and colourful styles but recently I have been leaning into more of a grunge fairy-core aesthetic, and this fall I really want to build this style in my wardrobe.

The style I am loving looks great with various textures layered together, think mesh, corduroy, velvet, lace, and quilted fabrics. The colours are earthy tones combining greens, purples, pinks, oranges and browns. It's very much a romantic, feminine sort of style but has the edge of big jackets, chunky boots, and arty accessories.

The Patterns:

The patterns I want to make work well together and below I will show you lots of different outfits that I can build from these pieces.

  1. Saturday Skirt Set in Crafty Pie quilted look fabric
  2. Ilford Jacket in pink corduroy
  3. Friday Bateau in mesh, see the blog post making it here
  4. Saturday Skirt Set top in a wavy knitted fabric from Jersey Tex
  5. Flaneur Pants in stripe denim from Fabrics Galore
  6. Patina blouse in vintage floral
  7. Dew Top in textured knit
  8. Friday Bernadette Skirt in green cord also from Fabrics Galore
  9. Friday Bateau in brown jersey and another in a crinkle beige knit
  10. New Craft House tapestry vest in vintage fabric
  11. Saltwater Slip Dress in green satin crepe

It's great planning your sewing projects like this because you can work with fabrics that team well together. Below are some outfits I have put together to show how they work together.

The Outfits:

This outfit featuring the Bernadette Skirt is a cute and very girly outfit styled with a floral Patina blouse, pink accessories and beige shoes. Perfect for layering up and wearing with tights when it gets colder.

For a slightly warmer look, the skirt can be styled with a long sleeve Bateau Top, knee high boots, and a pink cord Ilford Jacket!

Swap out the skirt for stripe Flaneur Pants for a more relaxed everyday outfit!

Another outfit from the capsule features the Saltwater Slip Dress, styled with the Saturday Skirt Set top for a fun hippy style of outfit that would look cute for a dinner date! Styled with chunky Mary Jane shoes and a fluffy bag.

If making a Saturday Skirt Set, they are great for mixing and matching with other things! This outfit is styling them both together but with the pink Ilford Jacket for a warmer layer, and gold accessories for a cute smart casual look.

This outfit shows how to style the Saturday Skirt Set with other things like the brown Bateau Top, with a Dew top layered over it and knee high boots. I love this look as it's very Y2k inspired and a great combination of fairy-core and retro!

This outfit features the cute tapestry waistcoat, and is another example of how simple layering can really change up an entire outfit!

Last but not least, this look shows how to layer up the Friday Bateau over the Saltwater Slip Dress (or you could wear it under it), and then layering over this adorable crochet Saturday Skirt Set!

The Inspiration:

My style icons are the casual and cool every-man on the street in their chore coats and knit hats. I'm looking for mix-and-match staples with a touch of fisherman aesthetic that I can wear anywhere. Now that the weather is cooling down, layering outfits only creates more opportunities to wear handmade pieces, and I plan to take advantage!

My favorite season is Fall: when I get to wear cool pants and pull out all my jackets from the back of the closet! I’ve been working on bringing my fashion sense to life, rather than leaving it to my imagination, and putting together outfits for specific occasions is a really fun way to practice. I love color, but darker or earthier tones are the ones I usually reach for in my closet. I took inspiration from this, but pushed myself to add some fun with a colorful print for my Donny and Heather.

The Patterns:

  1. Ilford Jacket from a thrifted wool Pendleton blanket
  2. Collins Top with a fun print like this winking eyes jersey knit
  3. Flaneur Pants in a mid-weight organic cotton hemp chambray
  4. Heather Blazer from this cozy large-scale plaid wool coating and lengthened by 12"
  5. Rambler Pants in a soft brown twill or light denim
  6. Donny Shirt with another fun print on a lightweight and soft cotton lawn

The Outfits:

First up, a classy outfit for the office. Flaneur Pants in a mid-weight cotton and hemp blend pair perfectly with some lug sole loafers and simple jewelry. The Donny Shirt in a fun rabbit and floral print makes this outfit comfortable and cool, but still professional and polished. And top it all off with a cozy handknit cardigan, and I’m in business (literally!)

Next, my daily uniform, a comfy pair of Rambler Pants in a soft brown denim, a graphic tee and a warm wool Ilford Jacket. Finishing this outfit off is a nice pair of Chelsea boots, a handknit hat, and a roomy tote for all my fun stuff. I imagine this outfit being the perfect choice for a hike with my film camera, apple or pumpkin picking this fall, or just going on walks around town with my partner or friends.

Lastly, the perfect fit for a weekend brunch date! I’m bringing back the Flaneur Pants and loafers, but this time mixing it up with a funky Collins Top and an even funkier Heather Blazer in a big plaid wool coating. After a latte and some avocado toast, I’ll be up for taking the train to a bookstore or a quiet stroll by the lake. Going out and about in my me-made treasures keeps me feeling pretty cool all the way home.

And just for fun, here are a couple more that you could put together with the same pieces!

We hope you enjoyed our fall winter capsule wardrobes! If any of our plans inspire you make sure to share your lovely creations with us on social media.
