The Saltwater Slip Dress is a great foundational wardrobe piece that can be used to layer under things, worn on it's own or layered on top of items as well. With all the possibilities of this pattern we thought it would be great to collate some ready-to-wear inspirational images as well as
fabric examples to get you started. Keep reading to find out more.
Ditsy Florals
Ditsy floral fabrics are always a great option for dresses, especially with the Slip as it looks great in drapey, lightweight fabrics. Bright floral prints are lovely for summer but can always be layered easily over a roll neck and tights in the winter for a 1960s sort of style.
The orange ditsy floral fabric is a Rayon crepe from Blackbird Fabrics and has a lovely drape. Floral fabric 2 with the black backing and meadow style wild flowers in from Sew Me Sunshine and is a lovely soft buttery Viscose. Fabric 3 is a lovely classic floral in black and white which would look amazing on anyone, it's a dead-stock blend of viscose and polyester from The Rag Shop.
Brown & Green Tones
A big trend this season is earthy and nature inspired colours and tones. Think sage greens, creams, warm oranges and browns. They would look great worn with sneakers or Birkenstocks, with a plaid shirt tied around the waist or a denim jacket.
The stripe fabrics are textured linen from Oak fabrics and the beautiful slinky sage green fabric is a Satin from The Rag Shop.
Fun Prints
Lastly here is a selection of super fun prints for some more stand out and statement slip dress ideas. Cute retro florals would look great styled with a bucket hat and chunky sandals. The middle look is a lovely tie dye/water colour fabric look and the Lady McElroy fabric is a lot more garish but would be really arty/cool! Lastly, a classic for summer has to be gingham, style it with a matching over shirt or layer over a t-shirt for a 90's vibe.
Fabric 1, the red and white floral is from Black Bird Fabrics and is a crinkle cotton. Secondly is the watercolour style fabric from Stone Mountain Fabric and is by the awesome Lady McElroy, called 'Life through a lens'. Lastly, the awesome lime green gingham is a linen from Black Bird Fabrics.
