Flaneur Pants Fitting
The Flâneur Pants are a mid-rise pant. The fit is comfortable and flexible. Size up for a relaxed slightly oversized pant, size down for a more fitted pant. They were drafted using sample measurements for a height of 5’6”[168cm]. Below we will outline how to make common fit adjustments.
Crotch Fit Adjustments
Shortening the Front Crotch:
If you are getting drag lines radiating from your crotch downward or if the crotch feels too loose in the front, you may need to shorten the front crotch. Measure in along the front crotch and remove about 1/4” at a time until you get the desired fit.

Lengthening the Front Crotch:
If you are getting drag lines radiating from your crotch upwards (sometimes known as camel toe) or if the crotch feels too tight in the front, you may need to lengthen the front crotch. Measure in along the front crotch and add about 1/4” at a time until you get the desired fit.

Deepening the Front Crotch:
If you have a round belly and are getting horizontal lines radiating from your crotch, you may want to deepen the front crotch. Redraw the curve of the front crotch to deepen it. This adjustment can be done in combination with lengthening the crotch.
Full/Small Seat Adjustments
If the pants are feeling too tight or loose in the butt area you may need to adjust the seat.
To do a full seat adjustment:
- Slash horizontally across the pants above the notches, starting from the back and slash toward the front without snipping through.
- Pivot your upper piece to add the desired amount of back length.
- Tape a piece of paper behind your opening.
- Redraw and smooth out the lines of your pattern. You’ll need to retrace the bottom of the dart at side seam so that it joins back up with your newly pivoted upper piece.
To do a small seat adjustment
- Slash horizontally across the pants above the notches, starting from the back and slash toward the front without snipping through.
- Pivot your upper piece downward to remove the desired amount of back length.
- Tape your pieces back together.
- Redraw and smooth out the lines of your pattern. You’ll need to retrace the bottom of the dart at side seam so that it joins back up with your newly lowered upper piece.

Adjust the Rise
To increase the rise:
- Slash horizontally across the pants above the notches.
- Bring your upper piece up the desired amount.
- Tape a piece of paper behind your pattern piece.
- Redraw and smooth out the pattern lines.
To decrease the rise:
- Slash horizontally across the pants above the notches.
- Overlap your upper and lower pieces, removing the desired amount.
- Tape pattern pieces together.
- Redraw and smooth out the pattern lines.
